Amy Rose Bennett has always wanted to be a writer for as long as she can remember. An avid reader with a particular love for historical romance, it seemed only natural to write stories in her favorite genre. She has a passion for creating emotion-packed—and sometimes a little racy—stories set in the Georgian and Regency periods. Of course, her strong-willed heroines and rakish heroes always find their happily ever after.

Your book, ‘My Lady of Misrule’, came out in the ‘Seduced Under the Mistletoe: 16 Seductive Historical Romances Yuletide Boxed Set Anthology’ box set on the 1st November. What was the inspiration for the story?

‘My Lady of Misrule’ is a sizzling hot Regency romance novella which I wrote for the ‘Seduced Under the Mistletoe: 16 Seductive Historical Romances Yuletide Boxed Set Anthology’ box set. All the anthology’s historical romance stories—there are sixteen of them—take place over the Yuletide season. My novella is a friends-to-lovers tale about a widowed countess, Minerva, who seeks support from her late husband’s best friend, Sir Tristan, when she discovers her husband kept a mistress. Needless to say, things heat up from there. Although it’s far from plain sailing as Tristan is worried an affair will ruin their friendship, especially if Minerva discovers he’s been hiding his own salacious secret. I can’t pinpoint a source of specific inspiration for the story other than I really wanted to write a very spicy friends-to-lovers romance set around Christmas and Twelfth Night—hence the title, ‘My Lady of Misrule’; I hope it gives readers a hint that my heroine is going to get up to all sorts of naughty shenanigans with the rakish hero.

What is your favourite thing about Christmas?

Spending time with my family and good friends, and cooking up a Christmas feast for them all.

What is the one era you would love to visit and why?

I think I’d love to visit the Regency era as that’s when most of my novels are set. I love the fashions, both male and female.

What is the nicest thing a reviewer has ever said about one of your books?

That’s a really good question! One particular reviewer once said she wanted to give me 10 stars out of 5 if she could for my book ‘Lady Beauchamp’s Proposal: Scandalous Regency Widows, Book 1’. So I’ll take that.

What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?

It depends on the book really. Research is an ongoing process and I am always falling down research rabbit holes about all kinds of topics—from Regency era water closets, to marriage and inheritance laws, to the ice creams served at the famous Gunter’s Tea Shop in London, to Regency era book publishers, venereal diseases, prostitution, and laudanum addiction. My current work in progress that I’m writing for Berkley Romance—How to Catch an Errant Earl—is set in a few places I haven’t set stories in before, so I spent several weeks doing background research and plotting before I began. One thing I do check endlessly when writing a Regency is the etymology of the words and phrases I use. But I’ve always loved history and the history of language (I studied several linguistics subjects as part of my speech pathology degree) so I really enjoy that part of the process.
