Guarded Hearts: Sandra Carmel

Sandra Carmel is an Australian author of racy, flirty and downright-dirty romance novels, novellas, short stories and poetry, who enjoys stimulating herself and others with words.

Tell me about your characters in this story, Hearts In Danger.
Sage is in her early 30s and is a psychologist specializing in the treatment of war veterans experiencing PTSD and helping them adjust to civilian life. Alexander—the man she had a secret crush on as a teenager but had treated her like crap—has recently returned home, and her brother begs her to visit his best friend and assist him to address his persistent trauma. Like she needs that stress on top of trying not to freak out over recently received, stalker-like messages.

Alexander is an Aussie in his mid 30s, suffering with PTSD after serving in the Commandos, and returns to Melbourne to try and pull his life together. While struggling to resettle, his best mate contacts him to check in with his sister, Sage—a woman he’d always considered off limits—after she has a break-in while she’s at home alone…

What inspired this story?
I have a thing for reading steamy protector romances and was keen to give writing one a go. I also enjoy writing lead characters with physical and/or mental health challenges and giving them a happily ever after.

Where is your favourite place to write?
I mostly write at my computer, set up on the dining room table, but I could create anywhere quiet. Though, I’d say my favourite place to write would be in some gothic-architecture-style study that formed part of an amazing old-school library, in a mansion perched high up on a hill, with a huge window overlooking a lake surrounded by snow-capped mountains *sigh* A girl can dream…

Apart from books, what can’t you resist buying?
Cheese! 🧀🤤😋😆🤣 I also can’t help but buy stuff to spoil my two kitties, Bastian and Merlin 😻😻 And, well, I’m a sucker for anything writing related. For instance, I love pens, even though my handwriting is appalling!

Thank you, Renee, for the opportunity to tell you all a bit about me and my story, Hearts in Danger (my contribution to the Guarded Hearts anthology). If you haven’t yet checked out Guarded Hearts, go do it now!
