The Gamble Racing books released in 2022, before F1 romances became famous but after the first series of Drive to Survive released on Netflix. My sons became heavily invested in F1 – a couple of them were already car enthusiats and all of them are very competitive sporting types.

These books were inspired by watching races with them and enjoying the drama of the F1 paddock. Hudson, the non-F1 character in Driven To Distraction, was based on the explosion of DNA and genetic/family research that was popular around that time.

Coming up with a mysterious car that Hudson was employed to find for D’Grieg’s family was simple enough. I asked my sons for some ideas about rare cars and it spiralled from there.

I’ve always been interested in family histories, probably because I have such a rich collection of family histories myself. My family are lucky enough to have kept generations of letters and other ephemera about people’s lives and several relatives have written books about different family members.

It’s a massive privilege to have those stories written down and one that Hudson’s business is inspired by.
