Only One Bed: Lauren Connolly

Over the next week or so, I’m going to be interviewing each of the eight authors in the Only One Bed: A Steamy Romance Anthology Vol 1 (Romancing The Trope). I’ve put them in alphabetical order and a quick reminder that this blog uses Amazon Affiliated links.

Lauren Connolly lives in southern Colorado, and is outnumbered by animals. She crafts love stories set in the contemporary world. Some are grounded in reality, while others play with the mystical and magical. Her writing normally happens in the evening because she spends her days as an academic librarian, helping students research all sorts of odd topics.

Your story in the Only One Bed anthology is The Bed Hierarchy. What was the inspiration for behind the story?
The phrase ‘The Bed Hierarchy’ comes from an ongoing joke with my family. During the holidays, we’d always gather at my grandmother’s house, and there would be this unspoken competition to see who got to sleep in what bedroom. Eventually, we figured out there were certain things that qualified you for the better bedrooms, and we would scheme for how we could move up the bed hierarchy the next visit!

What do you love about the Only One Bed trope?
I love the forced proximity of it. How their bodies are close, and they’re in the setting where intimate things tend to happen. There’s also a vulnerability with the characters being asleep next to each other. Sleeping in a bed together takes an element of trust, and how each person reacts to the situation reveals a lot about their personality.

Are any of your other books connected to your story in the Only One Bed anthology?
Not at the moment, but I could see going back and writing about the Buchanan siblings falling in love. Or even their parents! But if people enjoy the playful funny dynamic between Olive and Theo, they’ll also like my latest release Rescue Me (Forget the Past Book 1) about a reformed bad boy and an awkward book editor rescuing a pit bull together!
